ATS Family Program
Because we genuinely believe that family support is vital to recovery, we want our clients’ families to come to our facility and be part of their loved one’s treatment in the ATS Family Program.
We understand that addiction is can be a tremendously stressful experience for each and every member of the family, not just the addict. The family’s mental and physical health can be affected profoundly by the situation. Some families find themselves suffering from serious economic problems as a result of the addiction. Also, feelings of desperation can cause a chaotic situation to spiral even further out of control.
At ATS, we realize that after having struggled with a loved one’s addiction, a family member can feel exhausted, dis-empowered and discouraged. Part of our goal at Family Program is to help families to see that they are not alone and that there is genuine hope for their loved one.
We feel that knowledge is power, and therefore, we are offering lots of valuable education on addiction as part of our Family Program.
Family Program Elements
The Family Program is typically one or two days long and takes place every six weeks at the ATS Clinic. Because we understand that families can be very busy, we always schedule the program on weekends.
The program is open to the families of addicted individuals. On occasion, we do a two-day program that involves working with both the family and the individual who is in recovery.
Our psycho-education classes vary. They are taught by our experienced clinicians and often include the following:
- Relapse prevention
- Understanding The Disease of Addiction
- The Faces of Addiction
- Communication
- Forgiveness
- Co-Dependency
- Roles in Dysfunctional Families
Our Family Program is not only geared at healing the individual addict, but also healing the family. The education and tools we provide are for the betterment of the family as a whole. The selection of classes for any given Family Program weekend is designed to help families see where they may be enabling their addicted family member, or inadvertently perpetuating the addiction. We encourage our participants to take in the wealth of information and use it to cope with the issues they are struggling with.
As part of the program, we also encourage families to bond with each other. Once they see that they are not alone as concerned family members and that others are struggling in the same ways they are, they often find a great deal of comfort and strength. We promote this kind of camaraderie not only among families of our clients, but among family members of recovering addicts all across the desert community. Family Program is open to all members of the community and may be attended for a small fee of $25.
Think you might have some questions about the information that is provided at the Family Program? At least one member of our clinical staff will be available to answer any questions you might have. So, families, we hope to see you very soon!
