ATS Founders, Jim and Josie Herndon
Josie Herndon
Josie Ramirez-Herndon, Founder and CEO of Advanced Therapeutic Services and Recoveryview.com/Villareal and Associates, has been working in the field of Healthcare, Behavioral Health and Addiction Services since 1987. Josie serves on the Board of Directors of the Addiction Treatment Advocacy Coalition and Women’s CEO Global Alliance. Josie is co-founder of the Admissions and Marketing Symposium and Founder of the C-Suite Symposium. Villareal and Associates, Inc is a national marketing and events agency established in 2000.
Josie found her true purpose through spiritual practice and mastering her intuition with the Archangel Gabriel and his direct guidance. Along with owning the treatment center, and consulting firm, Josie has ventured into her very own Satori Center for Well-being. Focusing on wellness and spiritual alignment is the natural expansion of her personal and career path. Making a positive difference in the field of Addiction and Behavioral Health by integrating leadership and spirituality through advocacy, mentorship, media database and events is her goal.
Jim Herndon, PA-C
Jim graduated from the University of Washington’s School of Medicine Physician Assistant program in 2002. Currently, Jim is the Founder of Advanced Therapeutic Services, an Intensive Outpatient Program, in Rancho Mirage, California. He currently provides medical services at three local substance abuse treatment centers, Michael’s House, Bella Monte, and Sovereign Health as a Medical Consultant. Jim started working in the field of addiction medicine at The Betty Ford Center in 2002. In 2008, Jim became Medical Director of ABC Recovery. His work there includes assisting the admissions and medical staff at ABC Recovery Center to ensure quality care for the clients.
He was published in 2005 in the ASAM Journal of Addictive Diseases, having co-authored an abstract recognizing that Buprenorphine detoxification increases patient retention in treatment. This protocol has since become a nationally recognized model for opiate detoxification.
Jim has been in recovery for the last 23 years. He has continued his work with alcoholics and addicts, accessing and treating their medical needs. He is presently opening a medical office in Rancho Mirage to offer addiction and family medicine to the local community. Our team at ATS-IOP believes that people with addiction can get well and can move forward in their lives.
Our Story: Leading with Compassion, Experience & Purpose
At Advanced Therapeutic Services, our mission is deeply personal. Founded by Josie Herndon and Jim Herndon, our center reflects decades of commitment to healing, advocacy, and innovation in behavioral health and addiction recovery.
With over 70 years of combined experience, our leadership team understands the complex nature of addiction and the profound courage it takes to seek help. From the moment you walk through our doors in Palm Springs or Barstow, you are welcomed not just as a client—but as a person worthy of dignity, healing, and lasting change.
Josie Herndon, CEO, brings decades of expertise in healthcare, behavioral health, and spiritual wellness. As a national advocate and mentor, her vision integrates traditional addiction treatment with spiritual alignment and purpose-driven care. Her work through RecoveryView.com, national events, and the Satori Center for Well-being shows her commitment to whole-person healing.
Jim Herndon, PA-C, has spent more than two decades in addiction medicine, beginning his career at The Betty Ford Center. His co-authored research on buprenorphine for detox protocols helped shape national best practices. More importantly, as a person in long-term recovery himself, Jim brings unmatched empathy and clinical expertise to his work with clients.
Together, their leadership forms the foundation of ATS: a place where evidence-based care meets human connection. With services tailored to adults battling addiction, trauma, and mental health disorders, our programs offer hope through outpatient care, dual diagnosis treatment, EMDR therapy, and holistic support.
Every decision we make is rooted in one question: How can we serve people better?
That’s the difference at Advanced Therapeutic Services—where healing is not just possible, it’s personal.
